I'm Mike: The VGRetro Change-Over/Follow-Up

Postby VGRetro » Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:11 pm

Hey, everyone. I've been thinking a lot lately about VGRetro, and I've decided that if I come back, I don't want the show to be about me reviewing something as someone who I'm not. In a nutshell, VGRetro is a character that belongs in VG Bros. I want to review stuff as myself, but keep the fun in the show.

As a result, I've come up with a new concept.

The show's working title is "I'm Mike". The reason for this, is because of the opportunity to introduce myself with the blunt phrase: "Hello. I'm Mike. I live here."
This will allow me to do things I've not been able to do before. To be able to talk as myself and give honest opinions and reasons without justifying it by having the opinion of a character, like Doug Walker's notorious reviews of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Ferngully, where he truly appreciates the efforts of the creators and likes the show and film to a certain extent, but bashed them as a character. I think that in a review, one needs to give his own opinion, or the point of a review is wasted. In this case, if I reviewed Strider as VGRetro, I would have to claim it's the best game ever, but as myself, there's a better opportunity to review the game honestly, and express my true reasons why I personally don't like the game in any way, shape or form. There's nothing wrong with making reviews comedic and funny, but when one makes a review of something that contradicts the true opinions of the reviewer, then what's the point in reviewing it in the first place?

Now, I can make reviews for this show quite easily. But the question is, where will it be released? Well, I plan to send it to Thatguywiththeglasses, and if Rob rejects it (he often does), then I'll probably host it here. There's a guy on Youtube who I befriended years ago, and we made a Space Invaders review ages ago, but it was never filmed. The concept was similar to this one, which makes an opportunity to resurrect that old idea all the more plausible.

Leave me a comment to let me know what you think about the matter, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask away.

I like this idea. I think you will find that most of us on this website are essentially playing ourselves and giving an honest opinion. :)

I think it could work. But as usual, I would encourage you not to mimic the linear review style and try to deviate and stand out as much as possible.

This new idea certainly has potential. No matter what you choose, I'll always support you 100% all the way.
