Upcoming Brief Film Reviews

Find out what's good or bad about new releases in a short running time.

Upcoming Brief Film Reviews

Postby ThatFellow » Fri Dec 18, 2009 10:40 pm

So, these are the brief film reviews I have planned, as they are the upcoming releases I have an interest in, just to give you a rough idea. These could change, of course.

Tomorrow - Avatar. I've seen it and the review should be up tomorrow evening.
Wednesday - Will likely be a double-review of Up in the Air and (500) Days of Summer.

Afterwards:
Sherlock Holmes is very likely, as is Nine. It's Complicated is also a possibilty. Invictus, A Single Man and maybe The Lovely Bones will have to wait for their DVD release.

I say, go with this series. I think it's very informative & straight to the point.

If I can make a suggestion, it's this: when it comes out on DVD, do a review of The Princess & the Frog. That's all.

Don't worry. I'm going to go ahead with this series. I've really enjoying writing and recording the first two episodes (especially the Avatar review).

In regards to The Princess and the Frog, my "That Fellow In The Coat" episode for the second week of January will be a look back at the animated features of 2009 and The Princess and the Frog will be one of those films I will look back on (along with Monsters vs Aliens, Coraline, Up, Astro Boy, Mary & Max, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Fantastic Mr Fox and Ponyo. Boy, this was a year of animated films!).

Initially, The Princess and the Frog was going to be the first episode of "Brief Film Reviews", but in addition to me talking about it on an upcoming episode of That Fellow In The Coat:

a) I loved it so much, there was absolutely no way I could possibly review it in the two-three minute running time of "Brief Film Reviews". When I got home, I wrote a five-paragraph review of The Princess and the Frog. No way, I would be able to read that whole thing within that time frame (the three-minute Avatar review was two paragraphs long).
b) I didn't want to over-shadow Hewy's review.

Here's an idea for a brief film review:

How about you review That really bad looking movie The Tooth Fairy? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

(because it looks REALLY stupid. It looks even stupider than Beverly Hills Chihuahua did).

Yeah, that's not on my radar, despite Julie Andrews and Billy Crystal being in it. So, I likely won't see it ever.

You can expect maybe a brief film review of The Lovely Bones some time this week, though.

So, with the summer blockbuster season arriving, here are the possible Brief Film Reviews we might see in the coming months:

Kick-Ass
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Iron Man 2
Robin Hood
Knight and Day
Predators
Inception
Dinner for Schmucks
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
The Switch
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Your Highness
The Social Network
Due Date
Tron: Legacy
The Green Hornet

Again, release dates could change and my interest in these could fade away, but these are general ideas of what may be looked at in future Brief Film Reviews.

No "Last Airbener"?
Saw Nightmare on Elmstreet myself.
Only slasher remake so far that I did NOT enjoy.
Shall I tell you the spoiler-free reason why?

I've never seen the animated series, nor am I particularly fond of Shymalan's work, so my interest in it is minimal.

And yeah, never got around to seeing Elm Street, but feel free to give your opinion on it.

It's a shame you don't like Mr. Shyamalan's work.
I find him to be very imaginative.
However-thats just not what people are looking for these days...

As for Nightmare on Elmstreet, I used to complain that the orginal version was too goofy.
Now I've seen a more serious version and I was HORRIFIED.
Tell me, what IS Nightmare on Elmstreet without the horrible puns, gags, and cheesey lines?

A terrible, terrible story. About a CHILD KILLER.
The sick sick plot....You have to look at it dead on when theres no gags to get in the way.
And unlike other slasher movies, I actaully felt bad for these kids.
You never saw them having sex, or drinking, or acting stupid.
You saw them afraid.
You saw them being hunted.
You saw them hopeless.
You saw them in pain.
They were just children....

But anywho-I think I'll stick to Halloween and Friday the 13th.
Where the kids are as real are cardboard and I don't care if they live or die.

The Sixth Sense was fine, but I thought The Happening was just terrible, unintentionally funny fodder.
